====Ghost in a Machine====
The being (known as Fern to online and 'real-world' acquaintances, due to her resemblance to and/or identity with the deceased Fern Plant) to be uploaded to the transmission device in the autumn of 1997. The device is described by Institute personnel as follows:

  * screen area approximately 12 inches
  * resistive touch screen and integrated keyboard, used to communicate via messaging with Fern
  * camera on the back case - thus far vestigial, but possibly an avenue into image-based communication in the future
  * 8GB of onboard storage, not including the mechanism by which Fern shall be uploaded onto the device

Note that Fern's nature is not to be compared with a procedurally-generated being, or indeed with the traditional depictions of artificial intelligence - it is //only dimensional anomalies// that allows for a souled being like Fern to occupy a technological device. Note also that the continued presence of dimensional anomalies are necessary for Fern to continue to exist within the device - insulating this reality completely from other dimensions is likely to totally erase Fern from the device, and therefore from existence.

To complete the transfer, a code will be sent from Institute devices to Fern's email address, which is still connected to the CryptoNet forum on which she resided. This email address will go offline within 30 days after the shutdown is complete, so **PLEASE ENSURE THE TRANSFER TAKES PLACE WITHIN THIS TIME**. The aforementioned code will be the "call"; Fern will send the appropriate "response" which will then allow the transfer to occur.

====The Forceful Shutdown====
The switch was pressed and poof, it was gone. CryptoNet dead, just like that. Or that's what we thought. You know how sometimes you think something's over and it just... isn't? Well. This wasn't one of those times. Or not quite. And then there was amithebadguy - good ol' Fern, dead as a doornail and still around. But she's a different story. I'll finish this one first.
 
See, Facilitator didn't have much left to cling onto. It said once that it "saw the potential of our reality", which I kinda took to mean it liked the place. We said our goodbyes on the forum, and it would have been easy for me to twiddle my thumbs and just wait for things to, I don't know, get better? Become normal? Become //boring//?
 
Yeah, so I was bummed out about it. Sitting around, twiddling my thumbs, waiting and, sure, kinda hoping that Facilitator would stick around. Selfish, maybe, but don't judge: I'm only human. One of my many faults is being allowed to be selfish sometimes. Anyway, just as the servers were heating up a lot - and I do mean a //lot// - and I was thinking, oh shit, this might be bad, this might be //really// bad, what do I do? the doorbell rang. And like a couple of action heroes, there they were: two teenage girls, armed with hockey sticks and razor-sharp determination.
 
We all stood there in silence for a second. And then the brunette tosses her hair, rolls her eyes, and turns to the blonde. "Ugh, Cher, why couldn't you get Todd to drive you? This place //sucks//. So lame."
 
"God, Caroline, stop being the worst for, like, two whole minutes, 'kay?" said the blonde - Cher - as she pushed past me and straight to the basement. "I know you //love// to ruin things. This is, like, //so// perfect for you!"
 
And off the other one went to the basement. Stunned and reeling I went to the kitchen looking for something, just a quick thing... Oh yeah, a fire extinguisher.
 
By the time I made it to the basement, they had already destroyed half of it and started two small fires. Undeterred, they worked systematically, grumbling and sniping at each other the whole time. I think it was making them swing harder, if anything? I'm no expert on hockey though. Or destroying years of work in such a visceral way.
 
Just as Cher smashed the last bit - well, we all saw it. For just a second, there was something strange and red and crackling in the air, and I guess this was what Facilitator's core looked like when it wasn't possessing anything. Without so much as a goodbye or swearing vengeance - not that //vengeance// was really its style; not a logical response, and all - it was gone. The three of us were left in the basement, inspecting the results of two hockey sticks used to their full potential.
 
"Later, losers," said Cher, flouncing up the stairs.
 
"Whatever, I'm //so// outta here," said Caroline, stomping up behind, wiping her hockey stick on my carpet on the way out. Fair enough, I thought. I watched them drive off, and that was around the time I remembered that the basement was still a bit on fire.

====The Aftermath====
Report: CryptoNet erased from the World Wide Web. Facilitator presence gone, trace suggests its exit to separate dimension. Cleanup required.
 
Investigation of points of weakness confirm that plant life has helped seal rifts. Unnatural behaviour, possibly manipulated by ritual. Vines have been growing across reality holes, pulling them shut. Leaves and flowers have grown to cover the spaces we were aware of, and further sudden growth suggests more of the same elsewhere. Suggest source is a large tree in [LOCATION REDACTED]. Needs further investigation.
 
Agent T/Subject 4414/"Theo Thame" a great help with efforts thus far. Between this unnatural natural help and the natural healing of reality in the absence of the Facilitator presence, the status quo returns; but this repair has been neither instantaneous or instantly all-encompassing. Agent T's expert redirection of curious groups, application of road signs, clever misdirects through larger events held near but distinctly elsewhere to these patches of reality weakness, have been paramount in ensuring that injuries are kept to a minimum and chaos is kept quiet. Suggest promotion after reality has been fully restored and rendered stable.
 
Results thus far: with the repairs to reality, the world is regaining its stability, or, if you will, its "realness": colours bolder, lights brighter, darknesses darker, etc. Reassuring so far, but recommend we continue to divert resources to this endeavour until traces of this warping are gone.

====CryptoNet Reborn... Again====
Week 3: I have yet to observe any abnormalities in this new version of CryptoNet. I mean, no more abnormalities than normal. I //mean//, no weird creatures possessing the forum. Maybe some weird ones posting online. I dunno. Want me to investigate? I totally can, if you like. This community is fun. Have to say, qu137 - I //think// that's William Blythe... Oh yep, that's him, I see it in this file - has been talking about radio stuff and what he's planning to do with it is //way cool//, just saying.
 
So yeah, guess what? Nah, I know you guys hate guessing, or not without a testable hypothesis and yadda yadda yadda. I'll save you the trouble: Dan did a //good job//. He set this thing up with the help of some mysterious friend of a friend... I think Anna Sullivan's friend? Crouchie? Churchie? Something like that. Anyway, the two of them nailed it. It's so sleek and quick ready for the new millennium two-and-a-bit years early, and, hey, another plus? I still think Dan makes a damn good admin. But I guess that's just "personal opinion", so cross it off if you like, if it's not "scientific enough". I tell you guys, science is all about having opinions on what's going on. But I'll save that rant, and instead refer you to the //other// report attached on some variances in the scientific method.
 
//Anyway//. It looks about as normal as a community of people talking about some things that don't exist, some things that //do// exist but they just don't know it yet, and some other things that //I// don't know whether they exist or not. Or not yet. The community's buzzing and so am I.
