Encounter threads will give players a chance to engage with some of the weirdness going on beyond the forum, and in a more directly interactive way to turnsheets. Encounters will operate somewhat like linears: characters will physically go to a place where something strange is happening/could happen and so will be able to interact with some of what's going on, for better or worse. The location and some of its surrounding strangeness (if obvious/known) will be described by a GM at the beginning of the thread and you can choose whether or not to interact. There may also be NPCs who will be posting separately to the GM results post.
How 'linear' the Encounter is will vary, with some being more inevitably open-ended1), and some being a bit more directed2). Results are never guaranteed.
If you choose to engage with the thread, you will get to describe what your character is doing. The GM team will periodically post results for what you get up to, as well as any new developments in the weird. And remember: the world is a strange place. Do not assume anything will go exactly as you expect it to. With that in mind, don't post assuming certain results have already happened before a GM has had a chance to share results.
At no point during the game do you have to interact or engage with an Encounter thread if you don't want to. You can choose to if you wish but it's fully optional. It's true that things of value are sometimes gained from Encounter threads. But things of value will sometimes be lost. Overall, you may miss out on some stuff, but you won't be at a huge disadvantage from choosing not to interact.
Encounter threads will include a content warning in the first post for any sensitive topics or gif warnings which may arise as part of planned GM content during the thread's run. Please read these content warnings carefully before participating in the thread.
