Policy on PvE

There are a lot of weird and terrible things that your character may clash with over the course of the game. If that isn't another player, it's likely to be some part of the environment (including, but not limited to, NPCs) and be an example of Player vs Environment (PvE). While some aspects of the environment can be taken down with a few solid punches to the face, there will be many times that a character clashes with something that is not so easy to take direct measures against. Your character has things they're good at but they are not a one-person army, the ultimate super-hacker, etc.

In other words: there will be times when the environment is simply larger and more terrifyingly powerful than you. Sometimes prioritising escape or survival may be the only way you can get out of a situation alive or relatively unscarred (and possibly not even then). Being a player unfortunately does not mean that your character will come out on top of any and all encounters with some part of the environment.

We will take into account both your plan, relevant abilities (both positive and negative), and any previous preparations you may have made in advance of facing off against something, and will try and make the outcome as fair and reasonable as possible.

Policy on PvP

Sometimes characters will find themselves at opposite ends of a conflict, or find themselves with the compelling need to sabotage each other, to name but two examples of Player vs Player (PvP). The GM team will take into account character abilities (both positive and negative), as well as any plans made or previous measures taken when determining how instances of PvP will resolve.

By the nature of PvP, there is likely to be a “winner” and a “loser” when the outcome is reached. We ask that while your characters may be basking in smugness or withering in bitterness over the results, this is kept to an IC arena - please keep OC interactions gracious, respectful, and non-confrontational.

It is unlikely both sides will get out of instances of PvP without at least some damage including - but not limited to - character death. In cases of damage, we will try and make sure that this gives interesting roleplay opportunities for both sides. And in instances of death or other outcomes that will make a character unplayable, we will try and make that ending an interesting one to read.

Policy on IC Illegal Activity

The laws in the offline world of CryptoNet can be assumed to mirror the laws of 1997 UK. Therefore, illegal activities such as attempted murder will likely have negative consequences. When you want to engage in PvP or PvE that leads to an illegal activity such as murder, don't be surprised if this leads to very negative consequences for you, the would-be criminal.

Remember: although you are a player, your character is not immune to the law. While negative consequences are not a given, they are likely.

If in Doubt

While we will do our best to ensure that PvE and PvP outcomes are fair and reasonable based on character Pros, Cons, plans, and prior preparation, we are only human. If you feel that the GM team has made an error in an outcome, or has not considered something, please get in touch. We will review the outcome and either make adjustments in the event of an error, or confirm the outcome is as expected. We ask that if we confirm the outcome is expected that you trust our decision.
