Subject 3326 - Anna Sullivan Report of Activity from 1997

Following our offer of collaboration, we heard little from Anna Sullivan. After ascertaining that the file we allowed her to keep was genuine, she attempted to leak pieces of information to the mainstream press. However, as she lacked the contacts we have in the press, most of these attempts were ignored, the others were firmly rebuffed. Some of the leaked information was picked up by fringe conspiracy publications, like the Fortean Times, but the information failed to penetrate the mainstream.

Following this, she redirected her efforts into her personal work. Finishing her degree in short order, she then started working on a novel, the plot of which was closely aligned with her own experiences with the Institute and the paranormal. Due to its vivid authenticity and imagination, the novel was a smash success, and received widespread praise and award recognition. At the Hugo Awards she gave a victory speech where she outlined the information she received from the Institute, and everything else she had discovered. Though many dismissed this as a bizarre conspiracy theory, a large subset of her fanbase believed her, prompting a movement of organised action against an organisation that, on paper, does not exist.

In recent years pressure from this group has caused us to reassess our activities and restrict its reach. It is no longer possible to operate to the extent that we did in the late ‘90s, as too much activity will draw the attention of the amateur sleuths in Anna Sullivan’s rabid fanbase. As of writing, there is a governmental committee investigating extra-judicial organisations within the UK civil service. While it is unlikely they will produce anything of substance, their existence is a check on our interests, and has contributed towards a downscaling of our experimentation.
